ARTIST NOTES: Huli wigman reflects the culture of a tribe in the highlands of Papua New Guinea (PNG). PNG is a country, north of Australia (neighbour); a country culturally diverse with over 800+ different native languages which makes it the nation with highest number of languages in the world.
Among those 800+ different cultures are the Huli tribe. Pictured is a huli man wearing a wig and smoking his cigar using pipe made from bamboo.
The costumes he wore are made from mostly insects, birds, plants and taken from the forest. In the past, men who wore such are considered chief however today, these are worn during ceremonial events and dances.
